What is Sculptra and How to Build Your Natural Collagen

Sculptra is a collagen stimulator that stimulates your skin to produce collagen.

What is the difference between Sculptra and Filler?

With filler, the actual substance itself, usually hyaluronic acid, is used to directly add volume to the tissue. Therefore, results are instant with filler.

Sculptra stimulates your body to produce it's own collagen, and works gradually over time.

Results from Sculptra may be seen in as little as 1 month, but it usually takes around 3 months to see the full results.

What is Sculptra made of?

Sculptra contains a synthetic material which contains micro particles of poly-L-lactic acid, that has been widely used for many years in dissolvable stitches.

How does Sculptra work?

Sculptra works in building your own collagen which thickens your skin. With each treatment your skin will grow thicker to the areas in which Sculptra was injected.

A good analogy is to think of it as though you’re adding fertilizer to plants that you want to grow. The fertilizer being the Sculptra, which contains the micro particles of poly-L-lactic acid, to plants, the plants being your skin.

This is why Sculptra needs to be massaged after treatment, because you want to spread the seeds, or micro-particles evenly.

Advantages of Sculptra

  • Excellent for global volume restoration. Let's say you you need to add volume to many areas of your face, such as your temples, lower cheeks, and smile lines. Sculptra has an advantage over filler because it would take multiple syringes of filler to add volume to all of these areas. One vial of Sculptra would be able to target all of the areas above. (hint more cost-effective)

  • Ideal if you fall into the aging category of "sinker.”

Sinkers usually require global volume restoration, meaning they need to be injected to multiple areas of the face.

  • Ideal if you have angulated features, especially if you exercise a lot. If you are lean and do a lot of cardio, you may benefit more from Sculptra. Especially because filler may metabolize more quickly on you.
